Coco: Táizhōng shì zài Táiwān zhōngjiān de yíge chéngshì 台中是在台灣中間的一個城市台中是在台湾中间的一个城市Taichung is a city in the middle of Taiwan .

Adam: This is the start of level 3 of our course and as such we are going to be increasing the amount of Chinese used within the lesson. We will continue to teach new words in each lesson, while re-using vocabulary we’ve previously taught in the past during the chat portions.

Kirin: Wǒmen jīntiān yào xué de shì shénme ne 我們今天要學的是什麽呢我们今天要学的是什么呢What are we going to study today ?

Coco: Wǒmen yào lái fùxí zhīqián xué guò de 我們要來復習之前學過的我们要来复习之前学过的We are going to review what we have studied before .

Kirin: “Fùxí 復習复习Review ”，zhè shì wǒmen jīntiān dì yíge shēngzì 這是我們今天第一個生字这是我们今天第一个生字this is our first new word today .

Adam: And that means “review.”

Coco: Duì, fùxí 對，復習对，复习That’s right, “review” .

Kirin: Nà wǒmen jīntiān yào fùxí shénme ne 那我們今天要復習什麽呢那我们今天要复习什么呢What are we going to review today then ?

Coco: Jīntiān wǒmen yào fùxí dǎ zhāo hū de bùfèn 今天我們要復習打招呼的部分今天我们要复习打招呼的部分We are going to review our section on greetings today .

Kirin: Zhèlǐ wǒmen yǒu liǎngge shēngzì 這裡我們有兩個生字这里我们有两个生字We have two new words here . Dì yíge shì dǎ zhāo hū 第一個是打招呼第一个是打招呼The first is “greetings” .

Adam: And that refers to “greetings.”

Kirin: Ránhòu zài hòumiàn wǒmen yǒu lìngwài yíge shēngzì 然後在後面我們有另外一個生字然后在后面我们有另外一个生字At the end, we have another new word ，”bù fèn 部分部分section ”.

Adam: And that means “section.” So when you put the two together you get:

Kirin: Dǎ zhāo hū de bù fèn 打招呼的部分打招呼的部分Greetings section .

Adam: Which means “Greetings section.” So what are we doing again today?

Coco: Jīntiān wǒmen yào fùxí dǎ zhāo hū de bùfèn 今天我們要復習打招呼的部分今天我们要复习打招呼的部分We are going to review our section on greetings today .

Adam: “We are going to review our section on Greetings.”

Kirin: Hǎo, zài dì yī jí 好，在第一級好，在第一级Ok, in level one ，wǒmen yǐjīng jiāo guò 我們已經教過我们已经教过we have already taught “Nǐ hǎo 你好你好Hello ”,”Nǐmen hǎo 你們好你们好Hello (plural) ”，”Dàjiā hǎo 大家好大家好Hello everyone ”

Coco: Duì, nà shì zuì jīběn de dǎ zhāo hū fāngfǎ 對，那是最基本的打招呼方法对，那是最基本的打招呼方法Yes, that’s the most basic way of greeting .

Kirin: Yí, jīběn shì shénme yìsi 咦,基本是什麽意思咦,基本是什麽意思Eh - what does “jīběn” mean ?

Adam: That’s another good word to know – it means “basic.”

Coco: Duì, suǒyǐ dì yī jí de shēngzì dōu shì bǐjiào jīběn de 對，所以第一級的生字都是比較基本的对，所以第一级的生字都是比较基本的Yes, so the new words taught in level one were all more basic .

Kirin: Zài dì yī jí hái yǒu shénme dǎ zhāo hū de shēngzì ma 在第一級還有什麽打招呼的生字嗎在第一级还有什麽打招呼的生字吗So were there any other greetings in level one ?

Coco: Yǒu 有有Yes, there were . Nǐ jìde “Hǎo jiǔ bú jiàn” shì shénme yìsi ma 你記得“好久不見”是什麽意思嗎你记得“好久不见”是什麽意思吗Do you remember what “Hǎo jiǔ bú jiàn” is ?

Adam: That means “long time no see.”

Kirin: Wǒmen yě kěyǐ shuō 我們也可以說我们也可以说We can also say “Wǒ hěn jiǔ méiyǒu kàndào nǐ 我很久沒有看到你我很久没有看到你I haven’t seen you for a long time ”

Coco: Duì, zhè liǎngge shì yíyàng de yìsi 對，這兩個是一樣的意思对，这两个是一样的意思Yes, these two have the same meaning .

Kirin: Hǎo, nà dì èr jí ne 好，那第二級呢好，那第二级呢Ok, what about level two then ? Yǒu nǎ xiē dǎ zhāo hū de shēngzì 有哪些打招呼的生字有哪些打招呼的生字What new greeting words were there ?

Coco: Bǐrú shuō 比如說比如说For example “Zǎoshàng hǎo 早上好早上好Good morning ，Wǔ ān 午安午安Good afternoon ，Wǎnshàng hǎo 晚上好晚上好Good evening .”

Kirin: Suǒyǐ zhè xiē dǎ zhāo hū de fāngfǎ shì yòng zài shénme shíhòu 所以這些打招呼的方法是用在什麽時候所以这些打招呼的方法是用在什么时候So when do we use these ways of greetings ?

Coco: Nǐ yào kàn shì zài shénme shíhòu shuō de 你要看是在什麽時候說的你要看是在什么时候说的You have to see when you are using them . Bǐrū shuō zài zǎoshàng de shíhòu wǒmen huì shuō 比如說在早上的時候我們會說比如说在早上的时候我们会说For example, in the morning we can say “Zǎo ān 早安早安Good morning ” Zài zhōngwǔ de shíhòu wǒmen kěyǐ shuō 在中午的時候我們可以說在中午的时候我们可以说Around noon time we can say “Wǔ ān 午安午安Good afternoon ” děng děng 等等等等etc .
