My first lesson in Chinese characters came early on - during my first day at the high school I would be working at, soon after I had come to Taiwan. الدرس الأول في بلدي احرف صينيه جاء في وقت مبكر -- بلدي خلال اليوم الاول في المدرسة الثانويه واود ان يكون في العمل ، بعد فترة وجيزة وانني قد حان لتايوان. All of the teachers had to be present for a morning meeting led by the principal. كل من المعلمين وكان لا بد لهذا الاجتماع صباح اليوم برئاسة الرئيسية. Like anyone on their first day on the job, I showed up on time ready to begin my new experience. على غرار أي شخص في اليوم الأول على وظيفة ، حتى تبين لي ان الوقت المحدد بلادي على استعداد لبدء تجربة جديدة. However, I soon found that since the meeting was conducted entirely in Chinese, I had to find a way to occupy the next few hours. غير انني وجدت انه منذ وقت قريب وقد عقد الاجتماع في كلية الصينية ، واضطررت الى ايجاد طريقة لاحتلال الساعات المقبلة. I noticed that there was a pen and paper placed in front of each person to take notes. لقد لاحظت ان هناك قلم وورقة وضعت امام كل شخص ان يتخذ الملاحظات. I also noticed a card placed in front of each person with Chinese writing on it. كما انني لاحظت وجود بطاقه وضعت امام كل شخص مع الكتابة الصينية على ذلك. I asked the person next to me what was written on it, and he explained that it was my name written in Chinese - “亞當老師” (Adam Teacher). سألت الشخص القادم لي ما هو مكتوب عليها ، واوضح انه كان اسمي مكتوب باللغه الصينية -- "亚当老师" (ادم معلمة). I decided that this was the perfect opportunity to learn how to write my name in Chinese (after all, I had a few hours to kill with lots of paper in front of me to practice on). انني قررت أن هذه هى الفرصة المثاليه لمعرفة كيفية كتابة اسمي في الصينية) على كل حال ، كان لي بضع ساعات لقتل مع الكثير من ورقة امامي على الممارسه). So that’s exactly what I did. حتى هذا بالضبط ما فعلت. By the time the meeting was over, I was pretty proud of myself as I seemed to do a reasonable job of copying my name exactly as it read on my name card. وبحلول الوقت الذي كان اكثر من اجتماع ، وانا فخور جميلة وأنا نفسي لا يبدو معقولا عمل نسخ من اسم بلدي تماما كما يقرأ اسمي على البطاقه.

The next day in class, I decided to impress my students by showing them that I knew how to write my name in Chinese. في اليوم التالي في الدرجة ، فقد قررت لاقناع الطلاب بلدي لهم من خلال اظهار ان كنت أعرف كيف تكتب اسمي باللغه الصينية. As soon as I had placed the chalk on the board and began my first stroke, I heard a few “wrong!” choruses from the students. في اقرب وقت كنت قد وضعت الطباشير على المجلس ، وبدأت اول والسكته الدماغيه وسمعت عدد قليل من "خطأ" الجوقات من الطلاب. “How could this be wrong if I haven’t even finished?” I retorted. "كيف يمكن ان يكون هذا خطأ واذا كنت قد انتهت حتى لا؟" انا مردود. That’s when I learned my first lesson in writing characters. ذلك عندما علمت بلادي الدرس الأول في كتابة الحروف. Since Chinese characters were initially written with paint brushes back in the day, the order of strokes used to write the character made a big difference to what the end character looked like. ومنذ البداية كانت الأحرف الصينية المكتوبة وفرش الطلاء مع العودة في اليوم ، من اجل استخدامها لضربات الكتابة طابع تقدم فرقا كبيرا الى حد ما يشبه الطابع. Nowadays, even when using pens and pencils to write characters, it is still possible for the trained eye to tell when a character is not written properly because of the wrong order of strokes used to write it. وفي الوقت الحاضر ، حتى عند استخدام اقلام وأقلام الرصاص لكتابة الاحرف ، فانه لا يزال من الممكن للتدريب العين وعندما اقول حرف ولم تكتب على النحو الصحيح من الخطأ لأن من السكتات تستخدم من أجل أن يكتب.

There are rules for stroke order. هناك قواعد للوالسكته الدماغيه والنظام. In general, top always comes before bottom, and left always comes before right. وبصفة عامة ، قبل أن يأتي دائما اعلى من القاعده الى القمة ، وغادرت قبل ان يأتي دائما الحق. So horizontal strokes are written from left to right and vertical strokes are written from top to bottom. حتى الضربات الافقيه هي مكتوبة من اليسار الى اليمين والضربات الراسيه تكتب من الأعلى الى الأسفل. Where there are multiple elements like in the example picture above, there are rules for which components are written first. حيث يوجد العديد من العناصر مثل في الصورة اعلاه مثلا ، هناك قواعد للعناصر التي هي الخطيه الاولى.

Rather than memorizing these rules, I found myself a dictionary that listed the stroke order for each character. بدلا من هذه القواعد عن ظهر قلب ، وجدت نفسي القاموس واوردت ان والسكته الدماغيه ولكي كل طابع. I followed this order to practice the most commonly used characters. تابعت لهذه الممارسه الاكثر شيوعا حرفا. Do this enough times and you’ll eventually find yourself automatically figuring out the stroke order for new characters just by looking at them. هل يكفي ذلك مرات وأنت تجد نفسك في نهاية المطاف الى الاعتقاد تلقائيا والسكته الدماغيه فإن النظام الجديد للشخصيات فقط من خلال النظر اليها.

This is a question that many students ask when learning Chinese. هذا هو السؤال الذي أسال الكثير من الطلاب عندما تعلم اللغة الصينية. When is the best time to begin learning how to read and write characters? متى يكون افضل وقت للبدء في تعلم كيفية قراءة وكتابة الأحرف؟ Should I focus just on speaking? وينبغي أن تركز فقط على انني تكلمت؟ Should I learn to read without writing? يجب ان تعلم القراءة دون الكتابة؟ Is it even possible to begin learning how to read and write before learning how to speak? هو ، بل انه من الممكن البدء فى تعلم كيفية القراءة والكتابة قبل أن نتعلم كيف نتكلم؟

At first glance, Chinese characters can present quite a mystery to foreigners. للوهله الاولى ، احرف صينيه تماما ويمكن ان يمثل لغزا للاجانب. There is certainly an awe to them. ومن المؤكد ان هناك رهبة لها. How on earth are we expected to learn how to read several thousand characters, leave alone learn how to write them? كيف على الارض نحن من المتوقع ان تتعلم كيف تقرأ عدة الاف من الحروف ، والاجازات وحدها تعلم كيف تكتب لهم؟ Well, in this blog, I hope over time to reveal some of the secrets behind the process of learning how to read and write characters. حسنا ، هذا في بلوق ، امل على مر الزمن لتكشف عن بعض الأسرار وراء عملية تعلم كيفية قراءة وكتابة الحروف. Just make sure you don’t go around telling all your friends how it works. فقط تأكد انك لا تذهب حول جميع اصدقائك يحكي كيف يعمل. It’sa lot like learning magic - if you start telling everyone how you do it, that takes away a lot of the fun, right? It'sa يشبه الى حد كبير تعلم السحر -- اذا كنت بدء نقول الجميع كيف نفعل ذلك ، ان يأخذ بعيدا الكثير من المرح ، أليس كذلك؟ Why make it less impressive that you can read and write Chinese? لماذا جعله اقل يمكنك ان القراءة والكتابة الصينية؟ Learn the secrets, enjoy the process, then wow all your friends! تعلم أسرار ، تتمتع هذه العملية ، ثم نجاح جميع اصدقائك!

I’ll use today’s post to answer one of the questions above. واننى سوف تستخدم اليوم في مرحلة ما بعد الاجابه على احد الاسءله اعلاه. Is it ever too early to learn to read and write characters and is it possible to learn them even before you can speak? هل من اي وقت مضى من السابق لأوانه أن يتعلم القراءة والكتابة والحروف هل من الممكن ان نتعلم منها حتى قبل ان تتمكن من الكلام؟ The answer here is no, it’s never too early to learn. الجواب هنا هو لا ، انه من السابق لاوانه ابدا على التعلم. In the current university class I’m in, there are several foreigners with a remarkable ability to read and write but who lack experience in their listening and speaking skills. حاليا فى جامعة انا في الطبقة ، وهناك العديد من الأجانب لافت مع القدرة على القراءة والكتابة ولكن من عدم وجود خبرة في مهارات الاستماع والتحدث. The process to learn to read and write can be taught separately from the listening and speaking process, and with time, anyone can learn how to do so in a reasonable amount of time. هذه العملية إلى أن يتعلم القراءة والكتابة يمكن أن يدرس بشكل منفصل عن عملية الاستماع والتحدث ، ومع الوقت ، ويمكن لأي شخص ان تعرف كيف تفعل ذلك في خلال فترة زمنيه معقولة. Having said that, having a command of Chinese characters can aid greatly in vocabulary building, especially if you are living in a Chinese community, since you now have the ability to acquire knowledge from reading the vast number of signs around you, and being able to read books and stories at your level, that will aid in recognizing grammar and sentence patterns. وبعد قولي هذا ، وجود قيادة للأحرف صينيه يمكن ان تساعد الى حد كبير في بناء المفردات ، خاصة اذا كنت تعيش في المجتمع الصيني ، حيث ان لديك الآن القدرة على اكتساب المعرفه من قراءة عدد كبير من علامات حولك ، والقدرة على قراءة الكتب والقصص الخاصة بك في المستوى ، التي من شأنها ان تساعد في الاعتراف قواعد وانماط الجمله.
