I’m a little confused on the line: “Yí，wǒ yǐwéi zhǐ yǒu wǒ yǒu.” Why is yǒu there twice? It is literally “I thought only have I have.” Could you just have something like “Yí，wǒ yǐwéi wǒ zhǐ yǒu”? Thanks.

Great question! The “yǒu” is used a lot more liberally in Chinese than “have” is in English. “Zhǐ yǒu” by itself translates into “There is only” so “wǒ yǐwéi zhǐ yǒu wǒ yǒu” becomes “I thought that only I had one” (as “I thought I was the only one who had one”)
Your version “wǒ yǐwéi wǒ zhǐ yǒu” means “I thought I only had…” which suggests you thought you only had one cell phone (as opposed to two or three), which is of course a different meaning entirely.

Hello,
Probably a very basic question, but in the Podcast Review dialogue, why is it “一个” in “它是一个很流行的款式” and not “一种” if it’s the model that’s the subject of popularity? Or is it not so strict as that?

Hi Edward,
Either one is fine grammatically, however the meaning is slightly different.
The first one is “It’s a very popular model” while the second one is “It’s a very popular type of model”. The first refers to a particular unit while the second refers to the type or kind that this unit represents.
