Can you explain the difference between these sentences for me? The first one is the sentence used in this lesson (literally: I am first time come here) which I’ve never come across before. I have, however, heard the other two used before. I’m not sure I understand the nuances of these different ways of saying what I think are practically the same thing. Thanks for any help you may have to offer.
我是第一次来这里 (used in this lesson)
这是我第一次来这里。
这是我第一次到这里来。

All three have exactly the same meaning. I purposely tried to find a different way of saying the same thing, similar to how we might say “This is my first time here.” “This is my first time coming here.” “It’s my first time here.” etc.

Comment: on this podcast, the lady says “qi2shi2″ is pronounced as “qi…di..yi…sheng,” but both the number and the tone scripts read second tone. I think it’s probably the scripts that need to be corrected, right?

Welcome back! You are right that the speaker here (from Northern China) is saying “qi1shi2″, however since the dictionary lists the tones as “qi2shi2″ I left it that way in the text to show you that both versions may be used, depending on where you are.
