I was tripped up by the phrase “wǒ zài wàiguó zhǎng dà” when I first heard it because I didn’t immediately understand it was talking about something that happened in the past.我是摔了由" wǒ zài wàiguó zhǎng dà : "當我第一次聽到它,因為我沒有立即明白這是談論一些過去發生的事情。 I incorrectly translated it “I am growing up in a foreign country”. i誤譯為"我生長在一個外國的國家" 。 If I had tried to construct this phrase on my own I might have guessed something like “wǒ zài wàiguó zhǎng dà le” or “wǒ shì zài wàiguó zhǎng dà de”.如果我曾試圖建構這句話對我自己的我可能已經猜到了一些像" wǒ zài wàiguó zhǎng dà樂"或" wǒ shì zài wàiguó zhǎng dà德" 。 I really can’t figure out how to express past tense.我真不知道怎樣來表達過去緊張。 Can someone explain?能有人解釋?

    Hi Tom,喜湯,

Good question.好的問題。 The “le” particle indicates indicates a change in situation. "世界報"粒子顯示表明了變化的情況。 So stating “wǒ zài wàiguó zhǎng dà le” would translate as “I have grown up overseas.” In other words, I have stopped growing up now.如此表述" wǒ zài wàiguó zhǎng dà樂" ,將翻譯為"我已長大了海外" ,換句話說,我已停止成長。 In this situation that would sound strange.在這種情況下將聽起來比較奇怪。

Your other example could be used though “wǒ shì zài wàiguó zhǎng dà de.” I haven’t taught that construction yet though which is why it wasn’t used.你的其他例子,可以用來雖然" wǒ shì zài wàiguó zhǎng dà德, "我已經不教,父之說,尚未施工,雖然這也就是為什麼它是不使用。

What may also have confused this sentence is that “zài” can also be used to indicate being in the middle of completing an action so in theory “wǒ zài zhǎng dà” would mean “I’m in the middle of growing up.” Here however the “zài” is being used to show where the action is taking place - “zài wàiguó.”什麼,也可能混淆,這句話是: " zài " ,也可以被用來表明,在被中完成了一項行動,所以在理論上" wǒ zài zhǎng dà " ,將意味著"我在中間成長" ,而這裡然而, " zài " ,是被用來表明那裡的行動正在發生的-" z àiw àiguó" 。

    Hope that helps!希望幫助!
