There was a mistake in the original lesson as sāichē was explained as having a falling tone when it is in fact a high tone. This has been corrected. Please check the included transcript in your lesson to see which tone it has. If it has a falling tone, please redownload this lesson. Sorry for the trouble! -Adam

I think the translation “traffic” is wrong, it should be “traffic jam”. So:
traffic jam = 塞車 sāichē or 堵車 dǔchē
    traffic = 交通 jiāotōng

  3. Adam Says:

Good point - in English “traffic” and “traffic jam” are sometimes used interchangeably whereas there are separate words in Chinese. Thanks!

大家好!我有一个问题… in the exercises of this lesson we can find the expression “坐火车” and “坐公车”. Is this the way you say in chinese “to take the train” (or the bus)?
In the same phrase: 我坐火车因为开车会堵车”, I can understand the meaning, but could you explain the meaning of 会 in this context?
    谢谢!
    Alessio

  5. Luise (admin) Says:

    Hi Alessio,

    1. Yes this is how we say to take the train or bus.
    2. The literal meaning of 我坐火车因为开车会堵车 can be thought of as meaning “I take train because driving would encounter traffic.” The 会 represents “will” or “would” in this case.

    Hope that helps!

  6. Alessio Paone Says:

    Hi Luise,
thank you very much. I’m now on the lesson 33 and I’ve found the answer there too (for instance 坐飞机)!! next time I will just wait a moment befor asking… :)
Thaks a lot to the whole staff for you help… you make a great job and I’m learning a lot…
    谢谢你们!
    Alessio

The pinyin for 租in the the new characters PDF files is not correct. It should be “zū”, not “zhū”

  8. Kameier Says:

    Hi,
I think there are a few mistakes on the transcript page:

Raphael: 让我们再听一次今天的对话. 并说 Kirin 说. (开跟??)

Adam: Now before we continue, I noticed that Raphael just used a new word. She (He??) said: 并说 (开跟??)Kirin 说. 并 is a fourth tone and is a conjunction word meaning “furthermore.” So let’s hear it again.

    Raphael: 并说 Kirin 说. (开跟??)

And further down the page: Raphael: 让我们再听一次今天的对话. 并说 Kirin 说.

    Great site. Thanks :)

  9. Luise (admin) Says:

    Fixed, thanks!
